Create a Visual Vision Like the King

Jan 15, 2016

You’ve heard Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s incredible I Have a Dream speech (or, at least, part of it).

What’s amazing is that 250,000 people from across the country descended on the Mall in Washington, D.C., on August 28, 1963, to hear Dr. King deliver that historic speech. There was no World Wide Web to check the date or social media blasts to rally the crowd, yet 250,000 showed up at the right place and the right time. How is that possible?

They walked, took the bus, or drove to Washington D.C. because they believed what Dr. King believed. They made the trek because Dr. King painted a vision of an America that was far better than what it was like in 1963 and one that they individually believed in.

Visions Must Have Substance
You see, a vision is an image in your mind of a world that does not yet exist. In order for the vision to be strong enough to overcome adversity, it must contain tangible results of what the world would look like if you spent your time in pursuit of your purpose.

And, Dr. King had a very visual vision of what America could be like. One of the things he envisioned was “one day… little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.”

You can clearly see what that looks like, right? You can clearly see children of differing races holding hands on the playground or the school yard. And, when we see that happening we know that Dr. King’s vision is being realized.

Visions You Can Draw
Is your vision this clear? If not, it’s time to make sure it is. Break out those resolutions and add substance to them or better yet, draw a picture of your future world.

At Jeunesse, we envision a world where people are empowered to share what they love and create positive impact. What that looks like can mean different things to different people, but here are just some of things we are envisioning for those who believe in our Jeunesse values and purpose.

  • We dream of seeing Jeunesse Kids build better tomorrows for underprivileged communities around the world.
  • We dream of a mother being able to provide a better education for her children because she has an extra $1,000 or more coming in a month.
  • We dream of people have the economic empowerment to pay off their debts so they can feel empowered to help another.
  • We dream of men and women everywhere getting in the best shape of their lives.

In all, we dream of people getting up hungry and ready to attack the day. We see people that feel excited about their progress and purpose, and share their talents and what they love with such ease that they ultimately leave a mark on a fast-changing world.

Tell us your vision or post a drawing of your vision on social media with the hashtags #MLK #Jeunesse together.
